Newsletter CHRISTMAS BELIZE TIDBITS---2011 I was thinking about all the wonderful Christmas Holidays that I had spent with family and friends over my lifetime, and it was nice to reminisce about the past. One of my pet peeves today is to walk into a department store and have someone say "Happy Holidays". I think "political correctness" in some ways has caused more problems in today’s society. So here is a big MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone and if you have a problem with that, you should probably ask to be taken off this list. I have never spent a Christmas in Belize, but I did see some pictures the other day of boats on San Pedro that had been decorated with Christmas lights. It was beautiful at night. I think I saw them on the blog by San Pedro Scoop (just Google). DANGEROUS PART OF WESTERN HIGHWAY---TV Channel 7 reports that mile 27-29 of the Western Highway may be the most dangerous in all of Belize because of the number of fatalities. It is very slippery when wet. I always try to slow down during that stretch of the road, from mile 27-31. I would encourage you to do the same. CATTLE LOSS—Cattle ranchers in the Cayo District estimate that Jaguars kill 50 head of cattle/year and rustlers account for the loss of 300 cattle/year. To solve the problem, they need to teach the jaguars to eat the rustlers. That would be a win-win situation. LOL KENDALL BRIDGE—This bridge on the Southern Highway at the Sittee River was washed away in 2008 by tropical storm Arthur. Cisco Construction has begun construction of the new bridge which is approximately 200 feet long, 40 feet high and 40 feet wide. Cisco hopes to finish the bridge by July 1, 2012. This will be a welcome relief for those people who travel back and forth to the Southern areas of Belize.
